Not sure if they are avoiding re-using any previous words, but they do seem to have got rather more tricky recently πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

All the words were locked in a the start (day 1), although some have been changed when NY Times bought it.

No re-use is a basic rule.
Along with no simple plural ****S or simple past tense ***ED - unless they are also another word.

Ahhh. Made me DuckDuckGo that one: so they have a little over 2 years worth left before they either stop or recycle. No wonder they are getting trickier 🀣

My brother, who's into computer programming, coding, and all that sort of trickery, told me that the initial list is still fixed for the solution words but NYT made more words acceptable at the guessing stage. He has Josh Wardle's word list and the bigger NYT list. Whether the original list will be augmented once it has run out of new words remains to be seen but it doesn't appear to have happened yet.

Given I've normally even forgotten what today's word was two hours later, it wouldn't make much difference if they started repeating them.
