I just used google to see if my starter word has been used yet, and found whilst it's obviously an accepted answer, it's not even in the wordle word list.
All this time I've been clinging on to getting it in one. Watch it crop up if I change it now.![]()

I think there are now 2 lists, the original Josh Wardle list and a curated NYT list. As far as I know, though, the NYT list will allow you words that will never come up as the target words, and the solution has always come from the original list. So you might have a great starter word that won't ever be your Wordle in one.

There were always two lists:
1. Acceptable answers
2. Possible test words
Google AI:
After The New York Times (NYT) acquired Wordle in 2022, they curated the word list to remove offensive, insensitive, or obscure words (e.g., slave, lynch, fibre) and implemented a dedicated editor. While the core mechanics remained, fans noted a slight increase in difficulty, the removal of some British spellings, and a shift away from certain plural words.
Key Changes Upon NYT Takeover:
- Word List Curation: The NYT removed several words from the original list of 2,315 possible solutions, including agora, pupal, lynch, fibre, slave, and wench.
- Difficulty Adjustment: Although initially denied by the NYT, many users felt the daily answers became more challenging.
- No Plurals: The NYT adjusted the list to exclude most, if not all, plurals that end in "s" or "es" (e.g., foxes or spots), focusing on other words.
- Editor Control: A dedicated editor, Tracy Bennett, was appointed to select the words, ensuring they are accessible and not offensive.
- Technical Changes: The game was moved to the NYT website, with a, cleaner white background and different font, and the code was changed to prevent the easy downloading of future answers.

But have any answers ever come from a curated list? As far as I know, none have appeared yet.
I'm not sure I follow.
All answers (and all possible answers) come from the curated NYT list
