If you've managed to infer a fellow player's starting word then looking at their results on this thread will give you a head start. Or when a lot of players end up with a top line of wrong letters, you know the word contains few of the most common letters. The point is that, though the letters aren't revealed on this thread, they can still be illuminating. And technically it's not cheating.

If you've managed to infer a fellow player's starting word then looking at their results on this thread will give you a head start. Or when a lot of players end up with a top line of wrong letters, you know the word contains few of the most common letters. The point is that, though the letters aren't revealed on this thread, they can still be illuminating. And technically it's not cheating.

The problem arises when people make comments about the word, (for example if someone were to say something along the lines of "that's a French word", or "that's an abbreviation") that could give hints. Personally I avoid the thread until I've done it, but all the same, it is a no spoilers thread so that shouldn't make any difference.

If you want to work backwards from other people's patterns to glean a hint that sounds to me like extremely cerebral advanced puzzle solving rather than cheating. For me it would make the exercise harder.

still - in spite of the "no spoilers" title you should try to avoid it until you have done it
