Have you ever lent something to someone or asked someone to look after something for you, then they refused to give it back saying it's their's now?

Tools that I rarely use. Lend them to someone, forget about the tool until you need to use it. Tool missing and can't remember who borrowed it.
Anything borrowed by my son is not coming back.

I lent my turbo trainer to a colleague about 10 years ago. On an indefinite basis, but I never saw of it again. I think normal etiquette would have been to say "I've tried it and want to keep it - are you selling it?". It was actually the same person who had the idea of doing LEJOG on mopeds for charity, so I set the whole thing up, planned the route, already collected £50 off two people, and he then came in one day and said it's all off because his wife wouldn't let him buy a moped. I had to pay those people back out of my own pocket

My sister took a load of stuff when she moved out without asking me.
I’m not really bothered as it was junk anyway. Board games, puzzles.
There were some photographs though. She eventually scanned them and emailed them to me.
Since both my parents have now gone, I have inherited a load of family photos and some jewellery.
I don’t have a lot of contact with my sister any more. If she was that bothered about the stuff she would have contacted me.
Families eh?

I kid you not but having injured myself and not being able to ride I lent my motocross bike (RM250 Suzuki if anyones interested - one of the first monoshocks) to a nephew of a very good friend who promptly disappeared along with the bike. A long story short couldn't get the bike or any money out of the guy so I went through Small Claims Court and they did an attachment to earnings - then radio silence nothing for about 5 years then out of the blue a cheque for full amount, I heard he tried to get a mortgage but couldn't until he'd discharged his debt.

1965. I was deeply in love with a girl and lent her my vinyl 45.....The Fortunes with You've Got Your Troubles. A week later she ditched me with no warning. I was heart broken and never got my record back.
I did go on to marry her mate and we stayed together for 57 years.

I loaned a wanna-be-DJ the 7" single of King Bee's Back by Dope Demand... and a few months later I asked for it back. "But it's an integral part of my set!" was his shirty reply. I suggested he buy his own copy but that was too much effort for him. I did get it back because I'm stubborn like that. No idea if he got his own copy. I don't care TBH.

Also vinyl... a friend once loaned me David Byrne & Brian Eno's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and I gave it back a few months later. Then, maybe a year after that her son asked me for his mum's record back and I said I'd given it back. He didn't believe me and would scowl a little whenever our paths crossed. Then maybe three years after that our paths crossed and he approached me... "Dave! I'm sorry... I found it."
