Hay fever

Posting this here rather than in Health and Fitness as not cycling related at all.

Not had hay fever thing for about 17 years, then today out of nowhere after doing the gardening I'm sneezing, itchy and runny eyes, bunged up nose. Went to pharmacist and she says she doesn't get hay fever, yet today she's been sneezing and had the watering eye thing too. I thought I'd grown out of hay fever. What's going on?

Been happening to me too, and several chums who also have never suffered.

I assume all the chemical shite we pump on our GM crops now is somehow to blame.

I've suffered from it for years. Started on the anihistamines early this year as its usually around the start of June when it kicks in bad for me (grass pollen - tree pollen sufferers are usually earlier in the year). I am currently on Cetirizine which seems to work pretty well.

I totally agree with your there Bigtwin my hubby is very sensitive to chemicals especially since he developed M.E, and has hayfever as well. There is a report to suggest that a chemical used in pesticides is the same as a chemical they use in chemical warfare. I think its organophosphates.

Also why are the bee's dying is this something to do with the GM crops or pesticides? guess we will never know

Antihistamine here too - one of those 'one a day' jobbies. Took it later in the day, as the symptoms only came on this afternoon, but I'm hoping science has moved on a bit since 17 years ago when I last suffered. I do find it strange that I can have been symptom-free for all that time until today, then 'pow!'... The stuff about pesticides is interesting. I'm sure we've had high pollen counts in other summers, so very strange that it should get me today - unless the count today has been way, way high?

Just done my daily hour's exercise to try and sweat it out a bit, and have to admit it's made me feel a bit more with-it at least. I've requested Mr B mows the lawns until I'm back to myself!

I get it every year, in my teens it was so bad my eyes would puff up to the point of almost being closed but it's nothing like that bad now and the medication is a lot better. This year, including today, other than slightly itchy eyes I've had no problems at all.

More likely than a sudden increase in the usage of chemicals, especially during an economic downturn.

I get Cetirizine and Beconiase spray from the Doctors for mine. It has been worst this year, after a ride to work I start needing to itch, but it does go away.

I've stocked up on my hay fever stuff before I turn 19 and have to pay for it ;)

One thing I have noticed recently is that the greenery seems to be growing stronger, bushier and taller than usual. Most of the lanes round here seem to be running through unusually overgrown hedges and verges and I have been wondering if the pollen count is a bit higher than usual.
