Used to have them in the US, I'm sure smaller cities and towns still have them. One of the suppliers of grates has changed their stock to what appear to be bike safe grates. My Dad hit one in the 70's, and broke his tailbone. And his axle, on an SA 3 speed on a Raleigh. That's something to keep an eye out for in the States, where the motto of use it up, wear it out, and refurbish again is in full force.
