Hehe cheers, I only showed a few of the puddles. I didn't want to make the vid too boring so didn't show a lot of them. Also, these are quite shallow.

Check this out if you want big puddles. This was my commute a week ago! I got through the first one but didn't actually make it through the second. Which was actually a ford! :P

After a dubious morning, this video has made my day!
Not in terms of schadenfreude at you falling off, but at how cheerful you still seem after two dunkings.

If that had been me, I would have resembled an angry scene from the exorcist.

Plus it took some stones just to cycle into the ford in the first place :bravo:

Was it cruel of me to laugh, sawree :-)

I'm glad you were able to see the funny side. It looked like the front wheel just went out from under you - slimy surface I presume?

If you haven't already, it may be worth regreasing your bearings after that.

Yes mate, front wheel washed out on some slime. The force of water was just enough to pull me over too the right onto slime of some sores.

To come a cropper like that, and laugh about it, I doff my cap at you. And to do it when there's a (ahem) 'sensible' cyclist in such close proximity to bear witness to your error? You sir are a star!

I believe you misunderestimated (to quote George Bush) the depth there. Was that a depth sign on the right as you entered the ford?

Yes mate, It indicated 2 feet but I didn't notice it until I was well and truly in.
I rode through there in the past many times at around 6 to 8 inches so was quite confident at first. Then I saw the depth gauge but thought as I was so wet already what the heck, just go for it. I would have made too if it wasn't for the slime :P

The sensible cyclist, my mate, was in trainers and not clips. The mud was 6+ inches in places and I didn't want to go trudging through it. Hindsight eh :P

I am so glad we haven't had the rain you have had, stripping the BB to lube must be hell all the time

I'm currently commuting on a Galaxy Dawes and so far touch wood the BB has been ok. Now my other bike! the Cannondale Super Six has a BB30 and there crap at the best of times. Add some flooding and it doesn't stand a chance. Already had mine changed 3 times and the bikes only just over a year old.

Thought I recognised some of those places, I used to live in Silchester. I know that ford quite well, gauging the speed and depth of the water was always a challenge to see if I could peddle through it without ending up on my arse! Almost happened a couple of times as well as very wet feet. Well done on the commute through the back lanes in that weather, much more of a challenge than dodging the lorries and buses of Reading!
