lightness and stiffness is what is needed - means you get more forward motion for the effort you put in.

.... the only disadvantage of a light bike that I have found is that it tends to be thown off line when going down lumpier stuff, a heavier bike will tend to go in a straight line but it is a small price to pay.

I have a hybrid that weighs just under 8kg,softer than a road bike,pretty good over the rough(ish)I would like to get one of the hybrids under 7 kg.
