Just browsing for a cheap hybrid to replace my ageing Subway and the 2013 Ltd Ed. version is on sale (bear with me).

The Carrera Finishing kit incorporates a 90mm stem as well as a 670mm wide riser handlebar with a comfortable velofoam saddle with an integrated headset.

So the handlebars have a saddle, which in turn has an integrated headset?

Have the 'mechanics' now been given the job of describing the items listed on their website?

wrong Matthew.....buy from Halfrauds, just don't expect them to be able to fix it. My bombproof 4year old Subway wot i got for the princely sum of £199 is still going strong, but only cos I fixes it myself.

Halfords sell some very nice bikes. The Carrera and Boardman ranges are certainly worth buying. They represent great value for money. Some branches are staffed by mechanically inept folk but I've yet to encounter one in the past six purchases of Carrera cycles from three different branches in Leeds.

Bad service can be encountered in independent bike shops too.

Back to the point in the original post. The advert's wording is the responsibility of the copy writer and not the grease monkey. It's not really an issue and is merely a source of amusement. I've seen much worse in 'Japlish' and 'Chinglish' instructions where an auto translator has converted Chinese and Japanese instructions into English.

I like their adverts on the Dave channel. Both lots: the series of adverts where ordinary people attempt to show you how to fix something, and the other series where customers thank the car mechanics in different ways.

We found the instructions for a cheapo ASDA toaster in the recycling, with some really really bad translated English. Mostly comical, but one instruction went something like "If bread stuck in toaster, cut off power cable".

It meant cut off in terms of 'turn off', clearly, but knowing how dim some people can be, I fear for a literal interpretation.

Some scales we had at work for weighing rubbish had, in the manual, the words:

"When there is thunderstorm, please make solution for avoiding the thunder. in this way it can protect the safe of scales and stuff"

So, lightning's not an issue I guess.

Oh, I think it would be quite a complex thing to use, especially if you tried to follow the instructions as they were written!

It did specifically warn against using it on bread with any sort of spread on it...
