Hi there
Just joined today after reading lots of interesting stuff on here.
I'm a fit, young, 60 year old bloke.
I've dabbled with cycling before but only recently began to take it seriously. I was keen to improve my fitness and add some variety with my usual pursuit of hill walking.
Last year I got a mountain bike (Whyte 801, hardtail) to join my pal on rides. We live in the Peak District so a bit of a baptism of fire.
Enjoyed the MTB so much I bought a Dawes Karakum tourer early this year.
So far I've tried one overnight camping trip from my home in Hayfield to Leek and back with the bike fully loaded. Great fun!
Last month completed the C2C with my pal (me on tourer, him on a MTB) and found it quite easy. Mind, we took 5 days! We did this using our motorhomes, driven by lovely wives, for overnights, so carried only day stuff.
Now planning a four day cycle, wild-camping tour from Killin in Perthshire via Loch Tay, a circuit of Loch Rannoch, Loch Tummel, Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Glen Lyon and Glen Lochay. Really looking forward to this. Off in two weeks time.
I'm retired and have a head filled with ideas of longer tours in Scotland, France? maybe even Morocco (been twice on my motorcycle (oops .. yes I have a motor-driven bike too  ).
It's great to have time to enjoy my bike and I reckon the hills round here are helping greatly in conditioning me to climbing on the bikes. I get out every day either hillwalking with my dog or cycling; sometimes both.
I'll no doubt be after some advice in due course.
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff welcome to the forum from the Cotswolds!
As I've moved jobs I've replaced my R6 as my commuting transport for a Hybrid push bike

Pat - I NEVER cycle anywhere near 20:45. I'm scared of the dark!

Anyoldhow, it's not rain that concerns me, it's your flippin' midges!!!

Smile
