hello, just rediscovered cc website, it's even better than i remember. I'm heading to the pyrenees soon for the 10 day raid on my trusty old galaxy. Any advice would be welcome and whether to take a sat nav, if so which?

:welcome: again!
can't answer your questions, no doubt somebody with the knowledge will come along soon.
Enjoy your trip!

Depends wether you can read a map or not  I am useless with maps and took a Bryton rider 50 as my main navigation tool this was 99% flawless (best if you plan the route before going). The std maps (non hd) that came with mine are brilliant and it has all places of interest pre loaded, ie campsites and supermarkets etc.

I found the Pyrenees to be slightly tougher than the alps with more variable weather, also, whilst still above UK stds I found the driving to be less considerate especially the Spanish HGV and coaches.

It's something i fancy doing in the not to distant future, just got to get the other half to agree to it, she feels at the moment it might be a bit much for her, i keep telling her she will be fine, so hope fully she will come round to the idea.^_^

PS
Let us all know how you get on, and take plenty of pics.

Which way round are you doing it?

I did the 100 hour one (Atlantic to med) a few years back on a sturdy galaxy. I never felt a sat nav was needed as all the route info is clear enough on the back of the card you have to get stamped (all shops and bars seem to have a stamp and they are happy to validate your route) There were a few towns where new cycle paths took you away from where you needed to be, but it wasn't a major problem. I just carried standard maps.

The only advice I could give would be:

Carry plenty of water
Eat plenty
Learn the phrase "could you stamp my card please" in French
Pray for a tail wind and enjoy.

Ps, if you happen to stay in Argeles Gazost, the amazing wolf cries that echo around the valley are sadly only a recording. Happens at exactly the same time every night!
