Hello

I started at the gym at the beginning of this year and have spent a lot of time on the stationary bike. I have decided to enter the Norwich 50 mile bike ride in aid of The British Heart Foundation in ten weeks!!!

I've done lots of cycling in the past but haven't done any for a while. I went out on the road for the first time today and it was quite hard work!! I knew it would be different and it didn't help that it was quite windy.

Ah well, lots of practice ahead.

Welcome (I'm new to the community too).
That's a great start!
The beauty of cycling (to a large extent) is you can make it as difficult or relaxing as you like - and anything in between.
But the tea shops with home made cakes (with the added sense that you've earn't it) that it the real enduring attraction!!

Sounds good to me CC!

I'm originally from Bristol! I know that has nothing to do with anything, just thought I would share.

I would have enjoyed it more this morning had it not been so windy but presumably even that bit will get easier with time?

It truely does get easier with time as your stamina (and cycling technique) improves but (and i wait to be contradicted here!) - no one likes the wind.
I always console myself by remembering that the increase resistance is helping me build my strength so on those rare windless days you can really feel the benefit and marvel at the forward speed you can actually generate via a pedalling motion!!!

Hi and welcome to the forums,Good luck on your event im sure it will go just fine! I might possibly be doing that one also if I can arrange the logistical side to get myself up there so I may see you there.

Are you doing or considering any of the other BHF events this year?

Thanks Darkmarkster. It would be good to meet a few people.

I probably won't be doing any other events as I'm also doing the Aspire Channel Challenge too!!

I hadn't thought about the wind being a help in the training CC, doesn't mean I like it any better though!!

Hi bottlemsher.

I've had the bike in the garage for many years and just got it back out tor try to get fit and lose some weight.
I never did like the wind and now don't like the rain either.;)

Welcome to the CC forums Nomad.

I'm afraid you just learn to deal with the wind better with experience - it's still annoying. I much prefer the rain.

Good luck with the charity cycling.
