I am a 62 year old returner. I used to cycle a bit when my boys were young but I wasn't very confident even then. About 18 months ago I decided I wanted to try again. However, my hips wouldn't let me get on my Raleigh Misty so I sold it and bought a Pashley - absolutely lovely but very heavy. I then discovered that I had forgotten how to cycle! So I joined a group and started cycling round a car park, using bikes provided. I soon got the hang of balancing and pedalling and was able to actually join the group on their cycle routes. Then, last summer I was able to join the group on another more challenging route. I then decided that I needed to be able to take my own bike and I bought a Ridgeback low frame meteor. I love this bike and take it to both sessions. Today, I went to yet another session but had to come home because I had problems with my bike - see my post on another forum. I love being out in the fresh air, hopefully improving my fitness and technique. I wish everyone could have this opportunity.

Hi dolliedaze - what a great post. I love the look of Pashley bikes but worry they'd be too heavy.

Being out in the fresh air simply beats everything, doesn't it!

:welcome: - I too used to be a runner but my knees started giving trouble........cycling is a great way to take exercise and it's kinder on the old joints

Actually I've strengthened my knees a lot due to taking up cycling. Or at least, I've strengthened my leg muscles which now support my slightly dodgy knees better! Mind you, I would never be a runner, feels unnatural to me... ^_^
