We were thinking of train to near Clovelly and then exploring around that area, to be honest I would rather stick pins in my eyes than do the most boring place in the world ever with the corkheads on the Island... it is probably lovely but many a bored bored bored trip spent on the IOW! Plus the cost of the train to further afield is cheaper than the cost of the ferry to the IOW (The IOW ferry is supposedly the most expensive ferry in the world or something)

Squidge will be 8 1/2 and User76 will be just 4 by then.

Squidge does have a hankering to go to IOW as he cannot remember going & we do have a friend that has just moved there but I would need serious therapy to get over my IOW aversion.

I went to IOW a couple of years ago, not overly impressed TBH.

What about Dorset? We went to Swanage earlier in the year - twas lovely.

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
I would most like to go somewhere we have not already done as we have camped lots & lots with car & trailer tent all over the country, we did love Dorset near Swanage. We camped in the campsite the steam train ran through.

The main issue I can forsee at the moment is the train being a pain in the rear end getting 1 adult bike, 1 child bike, a bike trailer or tagalong + 2 small children and luggage on the train with just me

The camping equipment I can pare down to 3 sleeping bags, one small tent & a kelly kettle with the cooking bits. Clothes at a minimum and spare tubes etc. But I still think it will be interesting if we get an unhelpful train person and even more interesting trying to reserve spaces on trains.

Hmmm.... the bike trailer may well be a problem, I think they're banned on a lot of services.

I figured I can get round it as it is also a buggy and folds flat ?????????????

Ah yes - which trailer is it? I am thinking of getting a trailer, one that I can con rail staff into believing its a buggy would be awesome.
On a practical note, probably worth booking some assistance with getting on/off in advance. You may be told to chuff off, as the service is meant for disabled people, but you can ask for nothing!

Its just the Skiddii double child trailer & also I have a single one that also turns into a buggy with a front wheel it is what User76 would be in as she will only be just turned 4 next summer. If I could get away with it I would take the double as the boot space is fantastic and Mr Puddles made me bags that fit in it right up to the top for shopping so they would be marvelous for packing & as they have handles easy to whip out & in.

It will take some thought and shenanigans and practice runs to places I think hence why I am thinking next year.

We have 2 campsites near here (one is only 1 mile away lol & the other 2.5) so it would be easy to do a trial camping run and other trial runs of the whole thing into sections.

Hubby did say he could drop us off & pick up in car, but then that kind of defeats the object of being able to go away camping when he is working and I have no car access

oooh how far did you cycle to get to the campsite and how old is cubester if you don't mind me asking, my un-controlled mind is hatching a camping plan for next year with small people and my controlled mind is freaking at the thought

Ah, we cheated. We took the bikes to ride Penmachno and fish for mackerel off the prom at Old Colwyn. Cubester is 15. ^_^

Well, here we are in Wales. Sunburnt and saddle sore after yesterdays epic trail and todays fishing. It's now arsing it down, and we've done that very British thing of getting the BBQ going under an umbrella and cooking freshly caught mackerel. Hey ho bed soon and then strike camp to ride llandegla on the way home. Couple more beers perhaps.......

That's rotten luck... .. getting sunburnt in Wales.
