Well sunny today anyway...

I've been lurking for a while now and would like to say hello. I have a mountain bike and have been cycling around Perth for a while now, either on my own or with a friend. I'm not particularly fast but keen to build up some mileage. There's some great routes around Perth and would like to know if anyone could recommend routes nearby.

Hiya from a Fifer in Exile :hello: . I don't know about mtb routes but there are great road routes from Perth whichever way you go; Kinoull hill to the East is a bit of a bulgar if you are not expecting it and the roads to the south are steep too; I like that, but not everybody does ;)

Thanks for the welcome everyone. My bike is a Giant Rock, which when I think about it is probably a hybrid and I only really use it on roads/paths/gravel. Bit of an odd name for a bike really. I've swapped the chunky tires for road tyres and I'm considering a drop handle bike, but not sure I'm really cut out for it. Looks like it may be a fantastic evening for a cycle.

:hello: kedgeree and :welcome: to CycleChat ! :wahhey:

There are some great routes around Perth :sun: - one of which we have done a a CC Forum Ride a couple of years ago; it is such a fabulous one that Seamab and I have done it a couple more times since - with and without any other company .

Seamab's Garmin route for it is here. Well recommended - and it's about time we did it as a Forum ride too ...

Did a bit of that last night - went from my house (Western edge) to Pitcairngreen but turned up after that and took the Redgorton road before ending up at a friend's house at the almondbank roundabout - my seat had started to wobble and it was quite a challenge to maintain a decent riding position! I've never considered going to Buchanty but I may well give that a thought. Here's my route last night: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/qP8BKXqiK_g

Not sure I could keep up with you guys though - my average is about 11.5mph. It may be the bike, as I feel I'm going flat out quite a bit but never go very fast, but more likely it's me!

My average is somewhere about 11.5-13.5 depending on hills etc and when we meet nobody gets left behind ;)

Does look a good route, would be interested in doing that one day - so many forum rides, so little time...
