Err yes I. Meant to say tubular. I thought that they might be a bit fragile.
Is it a realistic proposition to have the wheels rebuilt nowadays or is it too expensive

Whether it's worth the trouble of rebuilding old wheels with new rims really depends on the quality & condition of the hubs fitted to the bike. A high quality hub by itself could cost more than a cheap complete wheel! There is a forum member who will do wheel rebuilds for sensible money, someone who has used this service themselves will point him out.

Tubulars are nice to ride on for sure and you can't beat the sound of a stone being deflected by one running at 115 psi ^_^
No reason for them to be much more fragile than normal clinchers , worth giving them a try just remember to carry a spare one .
My lbs charge about £30 to re spoke a wheel and service the hub
