Hello, thought I just say hi, I have done a lot of running this year but my knees are not happy with me, so need to give them a rest for a month or 2(easy for the doctor to say)
so looking in the shed at my sorry looking mounting bike, I decided to buy a new road bike the other day, nothing to expensive (£350 from halfords) I did try a couple of local bike shop but there starting price was over £500, way out of my price bracket.

went out on a test bike ride today, nice and steady 8 miles and my knees are fine, so for the next few weeks I'm just going to take it easy (no 50mile rides just yet)
then my plan is to run and cycle to keep fit and enjoy just being out and about. (lost 3 stone by running/diet)

I have been look through the forum today, picking up some good tips along the way, hope to join in with the banter and maybe help out a few people aswell.

Running? Come over to the dark side!
I tried it a bit the other way, but gave up. Good things about cycling?
1. Going down hill is easy
2. Going up hill is hard, but has the advantage of 1. coming up soon.
3. When someone passes you, you can always blame it on their better bike. Nowhere to hide when running.
4. Easier to carry drink, cake and map on a bike than when running.
5. Scenery changes quicker
6. Less stress on the knees.
Bad things:
1. If you get really fit, a good workout can take you over 12 hours.
