Much as I enjoy watching the ever increasing number of videos from helmet camera users I do get a little frustrated when there're no relevant tags. That is, trying to find them on "teh intarwebz" can be a little frustrating especially with no tags and very brief descriptions.

Please use as many as possible, preferably all, of the following when tagging and describing the videos (As well as any other words you feel are relevant).

bicycle, bicycles, bicyclist, bicyclists, bicycling, cyclist, cyclists, cyclocross, recumbent, recumbents, hpv, "human powered vehicle", mtb, bmx, velo, vélo, velomobile, vélomobile, fahrrad, fiets, "mountain bike", "helmet camera", "bullet camera", "lipstick camera", "helmet cam", "lipstick cam", "bullet cam", commute, commutes, commuting, commuter, commuters, FR/DH, freeride, downhill, trials, unicycle, fixie, fixies, fixed, "fixed gear", "single speed", SS/FG, XC, "cross country", touring, "low racer", "high racer", "tadpole trike", "delta trike", tricycle

Finally, any additional, constructive, posts to this thread would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think I would use all of the tags at once as I'm not sure how tadpole trike would relate to any of my videos!

Seriously though I do usually have reasonable tags on my videos, always 'cycle' and 'commute'

Do you use a helmet camera yourself Mark?

...but Magnatom you're so famous  that I just do:

Google - magnatom youtube
magnatom's videos
magnatom's subscribers
magnatom's subscriptions

...to catch ~80% of the UK H. Cam. videos. The commuting and playing in traffic ones anyway. It's the other 20% that are a P.I.T.A. to find.

I don't own a helmet camera yet. The current models all seem to be unable to show a clearly legible number plate at a minimum of 30m, even the mighty POV1. That and it's been such a long time since I actually sat on any of my bikes it's embarassing, never mind commuting  Funny that, 3 bikes, 2 frames, 1 folder (on loan) and many, many bits and "I isn't ridin" - double .

There's a Sony full HD (1080p) helmet camera available that would probably show number plates at >= 30m but it's 4-5 times the price of the POV1 (I think GBP3000 was the RRP mentioned).

 Am I that prolific?!

So what's the excuse for not being on the bike? Go on, get back on, you'll enjoy it!

Why do you want a camera that can resolve a registration at 30m? I tend to find that the cars that cause me problems tend to be a lot closer than that .

Do you have a link for the Sony helmet camera that you are talking about? I always like looking at helmet camera porn......

Not that prolific but there's a nice community of like minded cyclists and commuters (and a few trolls) that subscribe to each other's channel. Your name's just the easiest to remember and one of the more unique.

Linky for Toshiba HD camera above, it's only 65g too

Not for me thanks. It's not waterproof, you have to carry a big box as well as the camera and it's not great in low light (13 lux minimum). In fact would you have to somehow power the big box as well and have something to record it on?

I honestly think the POV.1 is more than up to the job. Bentmikey will confirm this in August.......

Sorry, missed that bit. Three reasons:

1. Paranoia
2. Lurking on forums and reading the A&S horror story threads
3. Doing this seach too often

...no real excuse ;).

The only valid reason for the higher res. is that many of the current H. Cam. offerings require you to shout out the plate number because of either noise in the picture or the amount of compression used.

Agreed. The Toshiba thingy looks nice until you realise what a hodge podge it is, but at least it's a progression. As opposed to things like the ATC3K/ATC5K using the same CCD as the ATC2K (They're reasonable cameras for what they are but where's the improvement already.)

There're a few POV1 videos on youtube but there doesn't seem to be much difference in picture quality over the ATC2k. The sound quality seems to be much better though. I'm not sure if either of those are due to compression by youtube, the user or the POV1 quality setting used.

My Archos is much better than the ATC2K. I think youtube does compress things quite a bit, although more and more videos on youtube now have a high quality option (a lot of mine have) so you get a better idea of the quality differences.

The raw footage I have seen of the POV.1 looks pretty good.

Thanks for info. I had a look at some stationary footage from an ACT2000. Good sound, which was suprising but it was stationary, but very dark picture, which may mean either the camera has a warm up period or it doesn't handle contrasting colours well.

I should get some POV.1 footage from another Bikeforums member to compare.
