Where I live isn't flat, and at the time I was at the top of a 1:10. I discovered the error of my ways about half way down it when I went to brake and nothing happened, and ended up riding straight through a cross-roads before stopping myself with my left foot going up the small bank on the other side.

Maybe it helps to live in in a place with hills - I can't go any distance without hitting a slope, in the old house I lived on a hill.

Six years I've been on this forum, and yours is the first argument in favour of hills I'm tempted to agree with.
