KB also sell higher end stuff, so could be a good choice to take an experienced cyclist to.

I would hope they have staff who know what they are talking about.

Another smart looking shop with stock of good quality bikes is Team Cycles at Team Valley, Gateshead.

I agree with the others, and if he rides a lot I bet he's been eyeing a certain bike. He may even want to throw in a few hundred dollars himself so he can get a carbon/ultegra bike for example. In any case, I think it's amazing that you are supporting something he enjoys, nice job!

This is a great quote as sometimes I often eye up shiny things knowing full well that I cannot afford them and no doubt my partner cannot either but potentially pooling together makes it possible.

Most people appreciate a nice surpise but it would be an expensive mistake if you bought him something that he didnt like. Why not take him to dinner and prsent him with alittle lego bicyle an an "I O U a shiny bike" message,

...now I need to pay for dinner too?! lol, but I love the toy bike idea! So I'm thinking what I might go with on the day is:
- Lego bike or similar (complete with IOU)
- Evidence of my research (quite possibly screen shots of this, complete with "great girlfriend" quotes, just as a polite reminder)
- a mapped out route of all of the bike shops you've suggested, complete with locations of my original suggested bikes and the couple that you've all given me, which he can completely ignore if he's set his heart on something else that he couldn't buy himself.
Thanks again! I didn't know if I would get any replies to this and you've all helped me with a much better birthday plan
