do not get the cool looking nescafé machine, the coffee is rubbish. if you are getting a machine to make espresso, make sure it has 15bar pressure. krupps are a good make, and i know that a certain discount supermarket has one on special offer very close to christmas for around £35…

Yes. Clear some cupboard space next to the foot spa, juice maker and George Foreman grill so you can put the thing away she gets bored with it.

If it's not going to head the way of a foot spa, george foreman grill, breville, smoothy maker to a cupboard then I'd go for a Delonghi, Krups or Gaggia one.
Don't know where you are but in Glasgow House of Frasers they have a wee bar thing set up and you can try them all out and find the one you like the best. Sit for half an hour getting someone to make you coffees then go home buzzing full of caffine and order it on line from somewhere else cheaper

Espresso machines defintely prove the adage "buy cheap, buy twice". Get yourself a Gaggia Classic and a burr grinder to go with it. It also has a steam valve for doing cappucinos etc. I've been very happy with mine...

Another vote here for a low-end Gaggia (I have a Gran for home and a Baby for the office) - Grinders can be a slippery slope, suggest you try pods to start with. Gaggia take standard pods from a large number of different coffee producers.
The reason I would also avoid Nespresso and the like is the proprietary capsules they take, only made by Nestle or under license - expensive and if they ever stop making them or you don't like the coffees on offer then you're stuck with a useless machine...

..oh dont get me started onm coffe machines...she's got two..used to have three...now the entire worktop looks more like starbucks...all that for one coffee a day....and then there is the two toasters, bread machine, mixers, slow cooker, fondue, chocolate fondu machine, toasted sandwich maker (which is the only gadget i want to use so it's continually buried at the back of the cupboard)...
...best advice....nescafe and a t spoon.

Gaggia is the top make. Having lived in Italy, Gaggia is widely used!
