I have mice in the floor void under my conservatory, we can hear them squeaking and crawling about. I think they get in via the air bricks, but I dont think they are actually getting into the house as I left small bits of bread out last night to see if they would eat it and they didnt.

The problem I have is that they appear to be going up the void next to the boxed in soil pipe that runs through the conservatory, and yesterday we could smell the definite odour of mice wee!!!

How do I get rid of them ?

Take out the air brick and put loads of traps down outside. don't use poison unless you really have to. They will crawl under there, die, and then stink the place out for weeks whilst they decompose.

Hi sympathy, we had them under house after we built extension. Chance are you have several , block up suspected holes with newspaper, they wil chew through this and give you an idea where they are running etc I would put down poisin/bait from Wilkinsons or similar be prepared for pungent smell of dead mice that can last 24/48 hrs! You need to get expanding foam/concrete block up all known holes, broken air bricks etc. We also bought plug in devices that send high pitched deterrent only mice can hear, we havent had bother since. Try and ensure food scraps are not left on floor, they will try and get into house eventually. Best to poison them asap, get yourself armed with scented candles, block up all know entry/exit runs etc good luck its a battle you can win....

Some good advice here about blocking their way in and I know mice can be a pain but don't poison them. Use a humane trap, you know, the sort that has a little trap door that closes behind them when they enter for the food bait. Just make sure they get released a good distance away in say a field.

air bricks were installed for a reason . and not just for gas fire ventilation. blocking them will give you a short term fix but long term can cause issues .

traps is the only way - and they love chocolate as a bait - biscuit and raisin yorkie is a good one .

We have them from time to time as there are fields behind my house. They can be real buggers to get rid of and crawl into the wall cavities. Hide the food, and keep the bins sealed as they will over run the house if not kept in check.

Subaqua is right - don't, whatever you do block the airbricks.

Traps are cheap and entertaining. The mice bounce around a bit after the spring does its job. Peanut butter is good bait. I'd not use poison because you don't know where it might end up.

Do you have a cat? When we got Thom all the mice under our house went next door.

I find mice and other rodents love either choc spread or peanut butter and I always use traps that kill them. In my opinion humane traps just pass the problem on to someone else, unless you live in the country and can release them somewhere that isn't going to cause a nusance to others.

I tend to get them in the brewery after the spent and fresh grain.

Humane traps will catch them, but they die of fright. Quickest way is the old traps, pack of four cost under £5 and like already said peanut butter is an ideal bait. Also get some rubber gloves for emptying the traps

I haven't found that to be the case, when it was time for release into the field this little fella didn't want to go ...

With the humane trap I was finding 2 out of 5 surviving and the dead ones in a dreadful state, but the dog may not of helped in scaring the caught mice
