OK, this a bit of a long shot, but have considered trying to get a family room at Holland Park Youth Hostel? It is in a fantastic location, the Central line tube station is 10 minutes walk away through the Park, there are loads of places to eat nearby, and it's pretty central. Cheap as chips too.

The downside is that it may be booked up a long time in advance.

Just a thought...good luck.

The Travelodge in Drury Lane is very central and pretty good value. Will save lots of time getting around. I have stayed there many times.

I have often used the Days Inn in South Ruislip. It's a bit further out but that means it is very easy to get to (it's about 500m from the A40 at the Polish War Memorial) and is about 50 yards from South Ruislip Tube, which is a 30 minute ride into Central London.

Very pleasant hotel as well, certainly one of the best cheapies I've used.

Following the Holland Park suggestion Carter Lane YH, right by St Paul's, wouls be another possibility. Otherwise I'v always found the various establishments run by Imperial London Hotels to do what they say on the tin (but no more!)
