hi I’ve just bought this, almost certain it’s not a genuine Merckx. Anyone one know what frame it is??

Cheers

Looks like a respray, is it ? It could indeed be a genuine Eddy Merckx. In the early seventies Falcon Cycles did a deal to produce Merckx branded bikes. EM thought they would be quality but Falcon mostly just churned out low price low quality bikes for the mass market. They did make one or two quality models but very few.

Well the fork is definitely a Merckx^_^

The rest is a bit of a mystery. The frame looks to be older than the forks: lack of blaze on bosses for shifters and front derailleur, no bottle cage bosses or rear brake cable guides and the mudguard eyelets sugggest to me late 1960s or early 1970s. . However, I am often very wrong when I try and put a date on a frame.:shy:

the transfers all date from later than that so @Cycleops is probably right that it has been resprayed..

Look for images of Merckx kessels and try and compare bottom brackets. If it is a kessels it will almost certainly be Reynolds 531, so the diamerter of the seatpost may also give a clue.

Good luck!
