Help on IMEI Numbers

Just finished a frustrating call with Orange in which I was told that my IMEI number of the handset in use did not exist, as it started 5200, which is wrong. I don't want to know the full number, but has anyone got a similar number or one that starts with other than 35?

The first digits show who allocated the IMEI, in the case of 35, BABT

52 doesn't exist!

Actually, 52 was originally allocated by Cetecom GmbH but they no longer allocate IMEI numbers.

If the 52 number doesn't exist then would that mean a handset supplied by the manufacturer is wrong?

Input *#06# into the handset should show the IMEI of the handset.
