Hi i would appreciate any help, i am planing a tour for me and two mates from London to the Spanish boarder at most. we have decent bikes and tents , i cant seem to find any journey planers that can show me what exact routes are the most safe and popular, i really fancy seeing Brittany. we are defiantly novices at this sort of thing so any help would be much appreciated thanks.

hi there, i am planning one for 2016, from the Channel to the med. I did a lot of searching online for routes and did see some down to spain, so maybe take some time googling. Part of the fun I have found is planning it myself, but I like that kinda thing. good luck

If you're aiming for Portsmouth as your port, than I have some tried and tested routes down from the smoke.

Use www.viamichelin.co.uk

It has a bicycle option and I've found that it does a good job at picking out low traffic roads with scenic sections. You would have to stitch together sections of your route as it doesn't like plotting more than 200km sections for bicycles.

This is great stuff thanks. I was quite nervous about planning my own route but I agree it is part of the fun. I like the idea of landing in st malo from portsmouth then cutting through brittany and then cycling down whilst sticking to the west coast all the way to bordoex and possibly beyond. Has anyone done a similar route if so any thorts ? Thanks Ethan

I did the reverse route a few years ago, very straightforward.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

There are as many ways of getting from the Channel to the Spanish border to the med/spain as there are sunflowers in the fields of france - all of them are good - I would suggest not to bother with route planners etc - think of what you want from the journey - mountain- sea - towns cities - draw a line on a map - chuck it into google or something similar to check how far, how long it is going to take - go for it
