50-60 Miles from Poole, Dorset where I live to my dad's house in Trowbridge, Wilts. Avoid the A roads and there are many dangerous country lanes that I wish to avoid. Anyone done a similar route and could recommend anything? I'm finding the sustrans site differcult to use...

Thank you =]

Some of the Sustrans routes are circuitous to say the least! I'd choose minor roads that go in the right direction - if it's anything like Sussex you'll hardly see a car. Refine your route as you go and learn for the next time you do it. I've cycled a bit in Dorset and Wiltshire and they're not the busiest plces to do it. Dorset is a lovely county - not a motorway in it IIRC

There's so many roads to choose from it's impossible to come up with a route but a few comments.
We used the Sustrans route to get from Poole to Wimborne when we caught the ferry from Poole - fine for tourers but not ideal for 23c tyres.
If you find yourself near Blandford, the road that runs north towards Shaftesbury, parallel to the A350, is actually quite busy as it's faster than the A350!
I don't really know north of Shaftesbury very well, so don't have a clue about getting from there to Trowbridge.

I'd be inclined to go:-
Lytchett Maltravers, Winterbourne Whitechurch, Okeford Fitzpayne, Gillingham, Frome, Rudge, Trowbridge

I think andrew may be right. The lanes adjacent to the A350 is indeed very fast and dangerous.

After a good look at Andrew's route on BRT, I'm going to say yes. I know those lanes very well, and in memory they are very very quiet.

Thanks to all that helped.
