"... travel far, not fast", Ted Simon
Hi all
I've just downloaded the gpx files of the End to End route from Cicerone books and now I'm utterly confused (not difficult for me). I'm hoping to use most, though not all, of their route on my trip next May.
They're currently sitting on my task bar (think that's wot it's called) on the bottom of my screen but appear to be in a zip file. I can't find their location anywhere else. I've also had that message saying I can only use an evaluation copy of the unzip software.
I just haven't the foggiest idea where to go next. It's far from intuitive.
I really want them in Garmin Connect cos I've have found that if I transfer routes from anywhere else to my Edge Touring I don't get the turn by turn instructions.
Can anyone please help? I'm not really a technophobe, though it sometimes feels that way.
Aaargh!

Hi...your downloads will go to the default folder that is set on your computer. If you can see the file, (you can search for it from the start button, and type the name) unzip it with a free program like 7-zip, easy to use. The unzipped file can be transfered to a folder of your choice, and opened in Garmin Connect. I tend to use Bike Route Toaster for viewing and transfer, seems the most reliable, but these things seem to have a mind of their own sometimes:tongue:

Hi
Thanks for trying to help. I've found the files and moved them to a folderr in my documents; I think they're unzipped. But you say I can open them in Garmin Connect, but how? I can't find any method of importing to Connect.

I'm not sure on this as i just upload my gpx files from garmin to strava,
I think if you sign into Garmin/ click upload/ then at the bottom it offers "manual upload" (after it finished searching for a device)/ click on this/ then click "choose file" and then you need to double click on the file you want to upload, it should then load automatically. I always save my gpx files for this to desktop so i can find them easy.
Hope this makes sense lol

How do you upload your rides from your Edge to garmin then?
Ounce you sign into your dashboard page, the upload tag is at the top right of the page, although i've not switched to modern yet, (well i did! but thought it wasn't half as good as the old version) so i switched back..

I don't. it's automatically syncd from the device when I plug it into my computer. I AM using the modern version though.
Since posting I've managed to transfer the routes to the device and got a message saying locations are full. All the routes (14 sections) are on there though. I just hope I get turn by turn instructions ie advance warning of junctions.
It's beginning to look like you can't add gpx routes to Connect but I'll give it another try using the old version.
Thanks for your help.

I can't find how to import into the new Connect either, so use the old version, and import via the manual upload button. Better still, start using something else Bike Route Toaster etc as the old version is bound to vanish and leave you stranded.

I found the import feature on new Connect but it wouldn't work. I've given up and just hope I get turn instructions. Bit tricky unless I go somewhere along route near here to try it. I'll probably do that sometime over next couple of months.
Thanks for trying to help.

I think I did look there and seemed to suggest it's not possible to import gpx files into Connect. Seems silly really.
Are you using the modern or classic connect.?

If the screen is dark blue and on the left are 4 icons you are using the modern (cr@p) one.

Click on the persons head (4th icon down) and click switch to classic

on the light blue classic version, go to the right hand side (do not plug your garmin in) and click upload, then at the bottom of the screen click manual.

Nope. Tried this and, "an error occurred with your upload".
Thanks for trying to help me.
