Having been on a mid ride last week when the heaven's opened riding in heavy rain was no fun and once the weather turn's made me really think I need a winter bike. Mrs 73 knowing me all too well is now all onboard for me to get another bike so I am in the market for a good all around one.;)

So I'm looking for a winter bike that can be used for most thing's on road and light off road, cycle path's , possibly bit of touring. That's not too heavy and won't break the bank.

i've found some to start with

https://www.merlincycles.com/merlin-axe7-tiagra-gravel-bike-2017-104289.html (currently out of stock in my size)

https://www.mangobikes.com/shop/bikes/point-ar/point-ar-tiagra/

https://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/bikes/road-bikes/london-road

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/EBPXXLAA1/planet-x-xla-apex-1-bike

Thought's and advice most welcome and others to add to list ?

Although it is more road than gravel, classic winter bike, rim brakes

The mango looks good, aesthetic and spec

Unless you want 1x11 as the Planet X (but BB5s are crap ime)

No bike will keep you dry in the rain though

My winter bike is a B'Twin Triban 540 - space for racks and guards and good tree clearance (up to 28mm) - maybe have a look at them too.

The Dolan Preffisio may be a bit beyond your budget at £799?

Look out for a used cx / gravel bike and get a spare set of wheels so you have one with 28mm road rubber and one with 32 / 35 mm gravel tyres and fit mudguards. You are then pretty much sorted for anything for not very much.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
The Ribble 7005 and the Dolan Preffisso are great bikes, BUT the mudguard clearance is VERY limited. Anything over 23mm results in frequent and frustrating mud clearing from the inside of the guards (personal experience). Both are quite 'dated' frames in that respect, and I'd be looking for 28mm clearance at least.

Had a look round as merlin one out of stock they have a 2018 version of what looks the same bike for extra £200

They also have this https://www.merlincycles.com/merlin-malt-g-tiagra-gravel-bike-2019-114706.html @£649

which comes £100 cheeper than the mango the 2 bikes looks basically the same to me

I have found this on sale https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/road-bikes/giant-tcx-slr-2-2017-cyclocross-bike-black_372169 @£824 worth the extra or still over priced one plus over the other's is Shimano BR-RS405 hydraulic discs.

I ran a Boardman Road Comp as a winter bike until last year. The current model now has disc brakes which is a welcome upgrade on a winter bike.

I've now got a Giant Contend SL1 Disc as the winter bike and while that model might be above your budget I'd recommend one of the lower spec models in the range. Room for guards and up to 28 mm tyres and I genuinely cannot fault how it rides.

Depends what bit has been measured for sizing. You need to compare the geometries. If the same measurement used, eg top tube, you could always make up the difference with a stem change as needed

Not sure where you get 53 from though? Geo here

https://www.cannondale.com/en/Europe/Bike/ProductDetail?Id=821c97ee-5dc8-413a-b39f-3713cdb4fae4

Go try it out, only you can really know what the sizing is like for you. That said historically cannondales have come up ‘big’.
What bottom bracket does it use?
