After being run off the road by an HGV today i think its time to get a video camera, what can people recommend, im after something that has excellent picture quality HD would be best and something that can record for at least an hour minimum and attach helmet or handlebar and be as cheap as possible, second hand would be good as well.

Just got a ContourRoam which I'm happy with. Had it recording for three hours nonstop and it didn't run out of battery. Records at 30fps for full 1080HD, or 60 FPN at 720HD at the highest settings. If you use a 32GB memory card, the card life should far outrun the battery life too.

My only criticism is that its not great in the dark (and I mean the DARK, not lowlight - its quite good then!) but I doubt many cameras would be without a specific nightvision function!

I have a Contour HD and a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition, and there is no comparison in terms of image quality and the range of available mounts the GoPro is far superior..... But then again it should be, its double the price.

+1 For the go pro, the best all round camera, lost count of the times i have said that, great underwater aswell, so if you ever ride into the river it will carry on recording.^_^

I'm not for a second saying its as good as a Contour or GoPro, but I got THIS last week for £100 and very happy with it

4gb card comes with it that'll last for around 40min, but I upgraded my card to last the battery life of 1.5hrs-2hrs.

I haven't, but will do so if you still need it?

Aye if you can be bothered... the picture quality in the Doggy Project vid looks fine... but still wondering about the sound quality.

I have experience of owning Contours and a GoPro, for commuting the best value for money is a Sony HDR-AS10 or AS15.
Over fours of 1080p recording on a 32GB card, over 2 hours and 10 minutes from one battery, cheap generic OEM batteries and chargers already exist. By far the best in low light conditions, although becoming less important as spring approaches.

Will do on Wednesday. Haven't got any daylight vids on it yet! I'm on lates tomorrow so that's when next on the bike, will upload it when I get back after work and email you a private link. I'll try speaking if you want a sound quality test.
