I didn’t realise he was still alive. A good innings as you say.

Just noticed Alistair Darling has also died. Only 70 which is scarily young once you’re in your sixties!

I'm on borrowed time then.

I thought she was just a character in 'Benidorm'. I didn't realize that her and her stage act actually existed.

I used to go on 'training camps' on the Costa Blanca every March. (I wasn't training for anything - I just liked getting around 1,200 km of sunny cycling in at a time of year when the weather here is usually pretty poor!)

I remember being on one ride and overhearing a bunch of younger riders talking about their previous night's pub crawl in Benidorm, which had culminated in them going to watch Sticky Vicky's show. They listed a huge list of objects which she had extracted from deep within herself. I found myself wondering:

• How on earth it was done?
• Why on earth would anybody pay to watch it being done!

As I was growing up, Henry Kissinger was one of those people who everyone had heard of, but most (including me) knew little more about.
