My wife worries about me when I am out. Not to the extent that she gets into a state but she is always relieved when I get home. I know it's concern not mistrust. She likes me to give her a call when I am having a rest break off the bike if I am on a long ride. She did have some dog tags made for me and insists I wear them whenever I go out on the bike.
That's a very good idea. I always carry a card I made myself with my name, address and phone to contact, just in case.

I've not read whole thread so this might have been mentioned but I carry card part of driving license with me and I also have ice contact (IN CASE OF EMERGENCY) on my NON PIN PROTECTED phone so Mrs can be contacted if the worst happens! Every now and then the conversation comes up about how she worries when I'm out!! But generally she just leaves me to it as its a joint choice not to run a car due to the ever increasing costs involved therefore I need to get around.

Pointing out that once up and down the house stairs carries more risk than 1000 miles on the bike probably won't help.

Mine used to be a bit twitchy when I went out on the bike, but seems to have calmed down now. I used to get a text about every half hour asking if I was still alive. Sending a reply saying "No, I'm replying from the afterlife" on one occasion didn't go down well.

ha some great replies there gents made me laugh, just to be clear she isnt a stalker,
I have been knocked off my bike a few times and once was a very close call so went onto mountain biking for a few years and didnt really enjoy it, so back to the road and the concession is that when im out and forget what time it is she can check where i am just for her own peace of mind, and to stop her phoning me to see that im ok.
I like the id tag ideas however that would only work if im not in the best of circumstances and im sure she would want to know but not the best phone call to get.
i dont want something to track my phone as that is single white female territory and she doesnt want that either (although actually thinking about it i can track hers as she lost hers a while ago and i added find my phone on her new one)
Ideally what i am looking for is something that i can use to track my rides and analyse when im home, something she can log into if im later than i said i would be to check im not in a ditch somehwere, as i do ahem on occasion forget where i am as the wind is flowing through my hair as i cycle to my hearts content (or more accurately freeze my ass off but still want to do a few more miles)

I use endomondo and that is superb although it drains the life out of the battery and would prefer to have the phone available if i need it.

Cheers
I was going to suggest strava but thinking about it your ride uploads when you get home! But you could certainly use google latitude.

Dog-tags? Laminated ICE cards?? Obviously I`m dead cheap so I just wrote the numbers for the house and wife`s mobile fone on a sticky label and stuck it on my lid (was gonna say helmet there but despite only being on this site a few days, i`ve already worked out how some minds work lol)

it won't solve the problem. if she's causing so much of a fuss that you feel the need to do this, there is an underlying issue, or (and forgive me for saying this) you are pandering to her issues. She will spend the whole time checking up on you instead of dealing with the problem. She has to accept that yes, you might have an accident on your bike, but a hundred things could happen to you at any time and she has to deal with it.

one thing you can do to help is NEVER tell her about incidents you have on your ride. from now on, all drivers are TOTALLY considerate

sticky labels always fall off, perhaps you should tattoo your numbers on your helmet instead^_^.

Story is the wife worries when I'm out on the bike and I was wondering if there is a standalone unit that offers real time tracking.
I have endomondo on the iphone but it drains my battery something ridiculous

If there is something my wife can log onto and see I'm moving will put her mind at ease and I can go out on the bike for longer runs.

Any help is much appreciated

Cheers
Give up cycling....that'll make her happy

I don't know about that. Mrs.GA prefers me to keep up the athletics. She does as well. Family medical histories definitely recommend it in my case. Plus, I don't grouse as much about politics if I can vary my subjects to drivers, other cycling club, our cycling club, etc. As a matter of fact, my driveway played host to a sort a indignation meeting about a local Bike Shop this afternoon. Bicycling broadens the horizons, and makes food taste better. Giving up cycling ? That'll make you sad...

My wife and I constantly track each other!

We both work with patients so reliable finishes are rare

It lets us know if we are both late to stop off for Supper on the way, or if one of us earlier we can get the milk / bread etc
