Hi,

I'm about to strip my Cube and give it a full service including replacement of the rear cassette and chain. It currently has an HG80 (9sp) 11-28 rear cassette which is £25 to replace but the HG50 is only £12 and can be had with 11-25.

If I went for 11-25 would it be a direct swap?

If I considered the HG50 with 11-32 which would be much better for the hills, would I have to change much to have it fit?

What is the fundamental difference between the HG80 and HG50 to warrant the price difference?

Thanks,
Chris.

The HG80 will be slightly lighter and more of the sprockets are on the spider. 11-25 is not the same as either 11-28 or 11-32t - the lowest gear will be harder to push if you fit a 11-25. You might get away with chain length if u fit a 32t - but you should only fit that if u have the longer cage rear mech already to be sure it works well (though some will tell u they can get it to work on the shorter cage - but it depends on your bike's set-up
