Hi peeps...

Just found this site and very useful and interesting well done.

I am not new to commuting having started around 1998/1999. I cant remember when. My first bike was a heavy Raglieh Pioneer hybrid which my father gave me.

I used it successfully for a few years, cycling from Friern Barnet (North London) to close to South Mimms Service station. Depending on the route its about 10 miles or 11.2 miles if I remember correctly

AT one stage I was cycling 3-4 days a week in the summer and 1-2 days in the winter weather dependant.

In 2003 I was invited to partake in a sun tanning sabbatical courtesy of the MOD. On my return after some advice, I bought a Trek hybrid.

On collecting the hybrid, after another chat with a cyclist at work I got in a discussion about road verses hybrid bikes.

I resulted in test cycling 5 road bikes ranging from £600 to about £1000 !! But they didn't tell me which bike was what price and asked me to choose. I selected the two most expensive bikes!

So I bought a Trek 1400 Road bike (2003) model for just under a grand. The shop was two wheels good in Crouch end.

Two years ago I went down with chicken pox. Off work for a month and unable to exercise for a lot longer. So I lost fitness and gained flab

the cost of fuel though was the incentive to get back on my bike, but kept getting punctures in my back wheel. Never found out the course but always in the same spot, so something caught in the tyre I guess.

So whilst trying to fit my Marathon tyres I found this site. Thank you all who responded, and my bike is now back on the road. With the schools on their holidays, I will get back to cycling mon-wed-fri if i can over the remainder of the summer. At some point I will hopefully get back into 3-4 days a week.

Anyway my history. FYI my route takes me though East Barnet, and Barnet Hill for those who know the area. It is rahter hilly

Welcome to the forum, Sapper, hope your stay here and your commuting is something you stick with and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to stick to the regimen well, so I can do it.

Just need some discipline, determination and guts I guess

Thank you all for your comments so far
