Hi everybody. My name is John and I have been riding a Kmx Cobra since September to which I installed a Tongsheng mid drive motor, although hardly middrive on a trike. Then I bought a new Kmx Koyote which I am doing up for the summer. I dont see a lot of trike riders in Scotland. In fact I have only seen two trikes in the flesh in my life and I own both of them. I have been around bikes all my life but new to recumbent as i find normal bikes a bit uncomfortable due to old motorcycle injuries and the fact I'm getting old, hence the lecky motor for my buggered knees. I bought the Tongsheng motor with the pedal assist only as i still need the workout and basically only use the motor for the hills and headwinds. I'm just about to retire and hoping to do many miles this summer so looking forward to meeting like minded people on two or three wheels along the way. From what i have found so far riding a trike is a never ending conversation and I'm never short of company whenever I stop. Anyway I hope to bump into some of you along the way and I'm based in central Scotland but not confined to the one place as I hope to be going further afield once we get out again.

Hi pleased to find another old trike still running. I am well pleased with mine but it is like new as every moving part has been replaced and decent puncture resist tyres fitted. I only bought the Koyote for the foldability and of course the extra couple of kilos saved. Also the fact I couldnt get mudguards for the cobra any more and couldnt even get a pair fabricated anywhere like you could pre covid. Rear mudguard wasnt a problem but the fronts are hard to find without extensive modification. Glad I went the coyote route though, it should be a flyer once I put the lecky kit on it. Anyway pleased to meet you, virtually and hope to bump into you someday when I'm out about.

A nice tidy trike. Yes lecky motors the way to go these days. Also I see your running shwalbes too. They really are good at keeping thorns out and although I've never had a puncture yet with them they aren't bullet proof but seem to work better than most. I must have the only electric blue cobra as mine is exactly the same running gear as the cobra and was assured it's a cobra which it seems to be it may have had a new frame at some point but the specs are 100% compatible with the cobra. I am just using mine to get along the river bank now to get back and forth to my boat so its low gears and offroad capability comes in handy. Apart from the mud slinging from the front wheels but mudguards for the river will be a definate no no. I will share some pics when I jet wash my cobra and get my new one out for its first ride. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to new toys and I cant help myself and have to make sure all the bearings are packed with grease and all moving parts are serviced, even brand new ones. It's a good way to know the trike and not be so susceptible to premature breakdowns. Well that's what I tell myself and it does give you peace of mind when doing longer trips like I will if and when we are set free

Hi. I live in Orkney and we often see recumbent bikes and trikes up here. Relatively empty roads, not too many big hills and lots to see. For some years we had a returning couple of fully faired bikes complete with rather cool single car style headlight. Looked great.

Hi thanks for your input. I have got Orkney on my to do list. I am seriously thinking of riding up to Aberdeen for the Northlink ferry up to the Shetlands via Orkney on the way back. I will probably see more trikes now that I have one and take more notice. I remember once I got a good deal on a pillar box red Escort van. I was forever deciding do I really want anything quite so in your face. I eventually bought it as it was a good deal. Then realised they were as common as muck thanks to the post office of the day. I'm sure I must have seen a trike in the past but cant remember. Dont know if I would ever go down the fairing route. I will need all the wind I can get over my body to keep me from evapourating on the hills.

Go for it. Shetland and Orkney are both worth the visit and surprisingly different. As I say, a recumbent would work well up here and we get plenty. Hope you make it. I'll look out for you. 🙂
