Now I`ve made my first post thought I had better introduce myself. I`m 55 and not been on a bike for nearly 30 years. I have a lot of problems with my calf muscles but the doctors can not find anything wrong and 10 years ago came down with an illness where the meds cause muscle and joint pain.
Over the past 5 years have been doing a lot of walking with my dogs and kept thinking about getting a bike again. Last week (13/11/12) took delivery of a Falcon Revenge. At the moment my legs don`t want to work and I am only doing short runs but am getting a little faster each time. When I get good enough I will look into going out with a local club.

Welcome Ray. I did a wee tour of Anglesey this summer and have done a few rides there as well. You're well served for lovely quiet lanes and if you don't already know, have about three NCN routes on Anglesey plus numerous other signed routes. You've also got a wealth of bridleways and places like Newborough forest if you want to stay off road, the only downside is the rolling terrain but a few months and you'll be used to that.

Thanks Crackle,
Quite lanes are what I`m used to. I live in a small village in the center of the island, 14 houses and a chapel.

Welcome Ray7.
We lived on Anglesey for many years, although I didn't cycle much when we were there. Looking back, I wish I'd have done more, as you say some loveley lanes around the island

I'm still learning - having started 20 odd years ago at college (Aberystwyth then Bangor). Reckon I'll be fluent in about another 20 years, though there's not many native speakers hereabouts!

You have my sympathies with regard to the muscle problem as I get problems too every now and then (thighs in my case). Your GP is unlikely to know a great deal as it's such a specialist area - and there are so many different types of potential problem. If you haven't already, I would recommend you get referred to a specialist if you can. I got referred to the neuromuscular place in London (Queen Square) and they are really good. PM me if you need any more info.

Hello and :welcome:
I like the cycling on Anglesey - I have rellies on the other side of the Menai Straits and try to get a few miles in whenever I'm there.
I've tried Snowdonia, but riding Llanberis Pass nearly finished me off...

Thanks Houthakker.

Thanks Glow worm, I have been to two specialists in Bangor but they could find nothing wrong. If I push myself walking the muscle starts twisting, you can actually see it moving under the skin. Told them to put my on a treadmill and I could make it happen but they said no. Not had as much problem with it since I got the other illness and put it down to knowing what I could get away with then saw a documentary last year that showed a man that had the same symptoms as me only his had started moving through his body. Cut a long story short they found he had a calcium deficiency. For the illness I have I have to take steroids when I have a flare up and when I`m on steroids I have to have calcium tablets, since first taking the calcium I have only had the odd twinge this leads me to think I had the same as the one in the program.

Thanks The Doctor
