Hi,

New to this forum and to road cycling (on a road bike). I've been looking for a road bike for some time. Was considering C2W but the recent government changes and the fact that my company is tied to Halfords put me off. My LBS do great deals, particularly on Specialised but in the end I went for a 2nd hand 2010 Specialised Secteur Elite, spotless and hardly used.

I absolutely love the bike and get out on it for relatively short rides as often as possible, but I'm easily pleased as it is my first road bike. I've been a fan of bike racing for a number of years but I've really got the bug now at the ripe old age of 45. My wife is convined it's a mid-life crisis! I'm already thinking ahead about going full carbon next year (funds permitting).

Had a couple of punctures already so will be talking to LBS about tyre replacement. Any recommendations, reasonably priced of course.

Had a few spd moments as well, one featuring an alsatian from a car window - very embarrassing!.

Can anyone suggest where I can get a copy of Chasing Legends for less than £25. They seem to be like gold dust.

Cheers,
Roy.

Hello Roy, Halfords 'do' Boardman road bikes which generally get a good 'rep' from all who use them... get one quick! As for tyres, for general riding, Pro3Race perhaps, Schwalbe Ultremo Plus, Continental 4 seasons... there are endless threads but it is of upmost importance to deflate and 'deglass/grit' your tyres, and then, using preferably a 'track pump', get them up to 7-8 bar for when you are out and about. Forget 'Chasing Leg ends' - it's nice weather, get out and chase some legs yourself! There is a ride headed your way soon - check out the Informal Rides section, and it is going to be an easy paced one - suitable for young uns of a mere 45  Anyway, welcome, and have fun!

Bagshot not too far from Maidenhead. Some days I head out to Binfield and loop around east to Windsor or west to Twyford.
On the 4th there's a group coming out of London coming to Runnymede where I plan on joining and looping around our area. And on the 5th I trying to get a group together for a loop around Wycombe. As Aperitif said check out the Informal Rides section.
