Hi from co. Durham 
I'm about to try my hand at cycling. Not ridden a bike since I was about 12, so round about 27 yrs ago. I'm looking for a Dutch style 3spd but alas can't stretch as far as a pashley lol ! Not having an easy time of it finding a bike for my size - I'm just under 5ft 1" with an inside leg 28". Most of the ones I've seen are huge. Tried a TDB style that I could afford, 19" frame /28" wheels and I couldn't even get up on the seat lol. Tried a pashley princess sovereign that I couldn't afford, 17.5" frame /26" wheels and it was a good fit. Typical !
So, I'm very much a beginner ! Will no doubt be on here asking very daft questions.

I would agree with the Pashley sizing. but you need to ride the bike to make sure it's right for you.

Decathlon have a 3 speed town bike http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/elops-3-2009-69566742/ & a quick look at Evans gives this http://www.evanscycles.com/products/raleigh/oakland-2009-womens-hybrid-bike-ec018943

I suspect the Decathlon medium will be too big but can't find anything relating to sizing!

I've seen the one I want, only problem is it's in Cambridge and I can't try it on for size. It's a ladies Dutch style from mybeautifulbike.com. They don't mention frame size, just 26" or 28" wheels, but I've emailed them my details, and between us we are going to try to work out the right size.

Hello Deb13b,

I'm sure you'll find all the info you need on here its a great forum, but if its of any help a friend of mine bought a Dutch bike recently. And there is a shop in York which specializes in them http://www.cycle-heaven.co.uk/ it might be easier/closer for you to go there and do the essential "Try before you buy" hope this helps good luck!

Hi Deb, welcome to the forum. I sympathise with your hunt for a good bike fit as Mrs A is five foot nowt and always has a problem not only with bike fit, but shoes, shorts, shirts etc.

You will find what you want, but it takes patience. I think you have already discovered that frame sizes mean little on their own. Only riding them will find one that is just right.
