I retired a couple of years ago following surgery for lung cancer (never smoked either!) which leaves me with only 65% of my lungs left. Always cycled recreationally but spasmodically. The need to improve cardiovascular efficiency (losing a bit of lung is like have the engine in your car replaced by one that is significantly smaller, its fine on the flat but when you reach a hill......) meant going to the gym and in the last three months have started to cycle regularly too. Just bought a Cube Attain (alu, 105) and enjoying it much more than the hybrid (which is now living in France at our caravan). Its hilly in Cornwall as many of you know, so 25-30 miles is enough for me at the moment.
