Thank you for the welcome everyone

I picked up a GTR 5 series road bike from my brother-in-law fairly recently that he bought new ~18 months ago; it's got less than 50 miles on the clock so-to-speak though as he dislocated his shoulder not long after purchase & needed a softer ride. I've followed the instructions from virtually every maintenance manual I could find in order to set it up for my specific bodyshape/height etc & all I can say is ouch. I think I might need a saddle with a bigger dip or a hole in the middle of it

I'm slowly getting used to SPD pedals & the drop handles, & even the strange gear shifters that are nothing like anything I've ever encountered before. It seems to eat up the road though, but then going from an old Carrera MTB I'd have been disgusted if it hadn't!

This is my bike, before I washed it & fitted the pedals etc.

Welcome Pete! What charity are you thinking of doing the event for? Whatever one you choose, it sounds great! Good Luck

p.s I'm from down the road in Scole!

We're doing it specifically for the Dereham & District Branch of the MS Society - trying to keep as much of the money we raise within the local area. The main charity gets a lot of funding but the Dereham branch don't get much at all despite covering a large area! We've chosen MS as the partner of one of our group was diagnosed last year at the age of 26, & it hit home a little that these things don't just happen to "old people"

A great cause...I wish you all the best with both the cycling and the fundraising!

Hi Pete and welcome to CC. I am along the A47 in King's Lynn, but work in Dereham.
I occasionally cycle to work and back so am looking forward to lighter and warmer days. I have gammy shoulders so ride a recumbent trike - but am a keen cycle mechanic so feel free to drop me a line if you need any help or want to be more confident about your ability to complete running repairs while undertaking your sponsored ride. Good cause by the way, MS is a bloody awful condition.
