Hi

I'm from Surrey south of Croydon. Bought myself a Brompton P6R three months ago, intending to use it to cycle the two or three miles to one of my local stations instead of walking the distance to save time and improve my fitness.

A few steep hills round where I live, and after struggling to cycle up them a couple of times (having to get off and walk!!) can now cycle up them with ease. Without going into the lowest gear too! And with the recent wind and rain and no trains, found myself cycling the 17 miles into London one morning on it! And since that morning, have cycled all the way in a couple more times.

So have been reading these forums to obtain advice, and may start asking questions. And perhaps in the future may even give out some advice too!!

Thanks for reading

Well done on the commute to work in bad weather, others would have abandoned the journey, I'm sure.

Bad weather is part of the fun! I love the rain. Not so much fun if its cold and wet, but one or the other is fine!

Can't see myself in lycra somehow - especially on my Brommie - but you never know!

Hi Pseudo,

I had a similar, though much longer journey: bought a mezzo (similar to a brompton) for first and last miles; started commuting the whole way a couple of years later; then did the Dunwich Dynamo(120 miles) on my folder.

It's a slippery slope.

Here's someone doing an 600km audax (that's about 375 miles in 40 hours)

Welcome! - cycling in the winter will make you so healthy your friends will all be asking you for your secret! The first year I cycled all through the winter, I didn't get a single cold. Good luck!

Anecdotes are (is?) not data: I was training for LEL when I got a cold in march that lasted for 6 weeks despite ramping my training right down.

However avoiding public transport probably reduces the number of colds, if you don't have school aged children (aka disease vectors)

Yeah, I'm being anecdotal.
