Hi there,

I have managed to win a Whyte 146 Works Large bike from the Gadget Geeks program on Sky. I love cycling and regular ride with my son but I have a bike and this kind of bike would be wasted on me. I would like to sell it, can anyone offer me any advice on where best to advertise this. It is brand new, never been used and is unregistered. The bike shop that built it said I should get £3000 for it as it doesn't retail for less than £4000 and is a very good bike.

Kind regards, Kathy

Wow, that's a serious looking piece of KIT

For selling you've got the obvious places like eBay etc, but that seems a bit low brow for a bike like this.

I'd try on specialist MTB sites, (I don't know any as I'm a roadie). They're the guys that will appreciate the bike for what it is. As for price, and stating the obvious, it's only worth what someone will pay, but whatever you get is 100% profit isn't it

Check with the supplier if the warranty is transferable to the new owner as this will make a huge difference IMO. Would you spend £3k on a bike with no warranty, or negotiaite a deal, spend a bit more and get a new one from the store with a full warranty, I know which I'd do, but if you can advertise the warranty it should definitely help.

I'm sure some MTB guys will be along with links to suitable sites, but I wish you every success in getting it sold.

Quick afterthought, have you asked the supplying store what they'd offer you for it. Sure it'll be less than the £3k they say you could get privately, but it'll be hassle free and job done in the blink of an eye, potentially at least.

 That is a NICE bike!

I think I'd also be tempted to sell it.. Think about how many bikes you could get with £3k.

Oh, and :welcome: to the forums!

Put it in a frame and glass box. Try forums or sell to LBS many will accept it keep the price good for yourself.

Well done, only slightly jealous!!!!!
Try Singletrackworld.com

There is even the option to strip it and sell it in parts. You could ask well over £1500 for just the frame and rear shock. The rear derailleur alone is over £150 retail. Cassette, over £300. The forks are about £750. Chainset about £250 on discount sites. Brakes are £120 an end, need I go on?

I find it cynical that they give a size large away as a prize, or stupid. What percentage of the populace are over 6'0" tall?

Thanks. I'm afraid I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing and seems such a shame to strip such an amazing bike. I can't believe how much these parts cost!! Or the bike for that matter. I'm tempted to keep it, would have been lovely to ride it this weekend, but I've resisted so far. Still want my holiday when the weather turns nasty again. Yes medium would probably have been easier to sell.

Yeah, such a shame its a larged framed bike, :hyper: I'd have surgery to grow into it ! Most bods on this forum would do all sorts of nasties to have a sniff of bike of this quality. Mount it on the wall instead of y'telly.
