By coincidence (like the previous member post) I'm also from Cheshire. Ever so slightly older (I'm near to 65) I've just retired. I have a hybrid which I got some 10 years ago but didn't use regularly enough-----in fact until 2 months ago it hadn't seen daylight for 2 years  . I also have a new(ish) road bike as a present from my wife (what's she trying to tell me!).
Anyway I have been building up the distance until I have now done 20/25 miles with reasonable comfort and the assistance of a good pair of cycle shorts.
With the road bike I've enjoyed north Warrington e.g. Winwick/Croft/Risley/Newton (20 miles) and with the hybrid Winwick/Woolston/then Penine Way and through to Moore (guess at 25+ miles)

I know very little about cycle specification and have some questions e.g. I am thinking of buying myself a new hybrid (retirement present).....how do I compare the spec's of my present bike to what is on offer ? If I look at what dealers are offering they list things like chain sets/group sets/gears & brakes etc but how wold I know if they are better or worse than what I already have?
Do I ask this question here or on another section?

I look forward to learning from and enjoying this forum.

Welcome :hello:

South Manchester bod here.

Post a thread about buying a bike in the General Cycling forum or Bike accessories forum.

If you are interested in group riding I would encourage you to go out with North Cheshire Clarion on a saturday morning. They start from Winwick, ride up to 30 miles max and the pace is very gentle.

I did look at their website before I found this one but decided to get my cycling fitness levels up before joining. I may leave it till Spring now as me and winter don't get on.....the main problem is that my eyes water like crazy in cold/wind and even last week I was having to stop every 5 minutes to wipe them. I have invested in an excercise bike so as to keep fit over the winter (not quite the same I know) and will cycle outside on the nicer days.

Hi Dave, I'm the other Cheshire newbie!

This place certainly seems great as a resource and for advice.

Cheers, Baggers.

Buy some glasses (with clear lenses). That will help a great deal.

I have actually already done that. I need prescription for both reading and distance so paid over £100 for a pair of 'wrap-around'.......they do help but the problem is still there. Have been to a specialist who tells me there is an operation but it is very unpleasant and must be a last resort......it's an age thing

Hiya from elsewhere :hello:
