Hi-Viz only works if drivers look for it, bright lights work best if you put then on the bike, don't expect drivers to look up to head hight to see them...

I have Hi-Viz and I don't really have that bright of lights, depends how bright an MR 16 LED is...and I have a Blackburn Quad.I know or at least think BM has brighter front and possibly rear lights but I guess that's for country lanes innit?

Im sure my lights are sufficient.

Be a bit of a salad dodger, and it'll fit nice and snug

Yeah I like all this altura stuff very good and I only started wearing Hi-Viz in the 1990's after getting constant SMIDSY's.

I have given up wearing my hi-viz tabbard, because it is so baggy in the mid-section that it fills up like a parachute and acts like an air-brake when I am riding at speed. It also makes me look even more like the hunchback of Notre Dame than I already do ...

What's required is one that has fully adjustable straps around the waist so you can yank it in tight.

Any suggestions?

Are we talking something that goes over the head, or a waistcoat that does up down the front....

If a waistcoat:

Does it fasten with velcro? Buy some velcro stick-on dots, or a strip (from your local craft or haberdashers, or maybe a hardware shop), and stick or sew them on the waistcoat to make a tighter fit.

If a tabbard over the head... How about getting a length of ribbon or tape (from a haberdashers, you'll find some strongish stuff there), a couple of metres. Cut into two bits. Sew on end of each to the back part of the tabbard, then when you put it on, tie them at the front to pull the sides in tighter.

My hi-vis vest, courtesy of Padbeat back on C+, has a blue panel on the back with POLITE written on it in white reflective. Not sure it works every time, but I reckon it works often enough.... Walking through town in it on Saturday, two people stopped me to say how good it was, one reckoned I had more moral authority in it than a PCSO, but I suspect he had an axe to grind...

I tried the poundshop ones myself, but they have a velcro fastening and it doesn't fasten it properly. I often use my free Skyride vest, stays on well, but I feel a bit daft wearing it!

I've got one which I pop on occasionally and just took a needle and some strong thread to it to make it a bit more "fitted".

On the bright side, if it is flapping around, it's way more likely to be spotted than a figure-hugging item. So, it's not a parachute, it's an extra level of safety.

What's the sports shop that is always having a closing down sale? Sports...direct? They had some Karrimor hi-viz gilets with reflective bands on, not too OTT, £10 various sizes, I think they might be for running really. You can always get some of that iron on reflective strips once you get the right fitting top.
