he thought that the other person was going to do him some harm

That's where the offence is committed - under the protection from harrassment act (putting people in fear of violence). The driver may well have got what he deserved, but that doesn't make it right.

Personally think the BMW driver got what he deserved, he thought he could bully and intimidate someone and then when he thought that the other person was going to do him some harm, he panicked. Next time he will think twice about doing it.
It is all very well and good being brave when you are behind the wheel of a car but you can't always be in it.
His short term reactions will very unlikely be changed, as this is more to do with base line personality & how the driver reacted to an adrenalin shot. However his longer term actions may be effected so once that initial shock has been got over he'll be even more reckless if he thinks someone is following.

If someone objects to your driving try to apologise, regardless of how they act. Turning the heat up on the road only causes more dangers not less.
Most of them yeah, except for the ones that act an a manner which directly contravenes my safety. Then it's a case of applying the brakes, pulling up on the side of the road and seeing if they want a scrap. Three out of three have driven off so far.
Only 3? Your criteria are obviously more stringent than mine. I've lost count of the number of times I've told someone to pull over/tapped on their drivers window etc. So far I've had two stop, one of which was 5 blokes.

Hey, watch out, I used to have a Volvo when the business department at Mill Volvo needed to get rid of surplus old stock and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The one and only time. It was a great car but not very efficient.... and it was beige.... [sorry 'Desert Gold'].

Here for rides.
Surprised the original post got so many likes, but then again, there are a lot of idiots on bikes as well as cars.
Idiots presumably being all folk that don't agree with your world view?

maybe some of us have a bit more knowledge of mickle than you do.......

Must try derision the next time WVM reverses into me, drives over my bike and then headbutts me, I'll let you know how it works out.
I'm not sure it would be so effective in that situation, but sure, give it a go if you want.

Reminds me of the time when a mate of mine Ian was driving along a dual carriageway, about 250 yards from traffic lights.

A young kid in his posed-up but ancient 3 series BMW came racing up behind him, flashing his lights, horn blaring, all sort of gestures, etc, but as Ian was turning right at the lights and travelling at the speed limit, he 'declined' to move out of the way. The kid sat inches from his bumper and when the lights changed, stopped behind Ian's car, leapt out, wrenched open Ian's car door and threw a punch at him.

Unfortunately for the idiot, despite driving round at the time in a poxy Citroen Ax, Ian is 6 feet 5 inches tall, the same across, and a damn fine rugby player who was then in his prime . When these facts rapidly dawned on the idiot, who was apparently barely 5' 9'' and 10 stone dripping wet, he was off like a whippet, running straight across the central reservation, the dual carriageway in the opposite direction and into the woods on the far side of the road as fast as his legs would carry him.

Ian was minded to give chase to 'reason' with him, but said he was laughing so much he couldn't run.

When Ian drove back about 20 minutes later, the shame-faced driver was evidently trying to explain to the Police, who were by then in attendance, why it was he'd parked and abandoned his car on a dual carriageway!

I suspect that his driving behaviour may also have changed somewhat after this incident!

I'd pay to have seen this unfold!

There are all sorts of unforeseen scenarios with terrible consequences that could have happened. You might have been involved in a collision unrelated to the BMW you were pursuing which left you or indeed another party such as a child or anyone with serious or fatal injuries. Imagine having that on your conscience for the rest of your life? I bet in this instance you would have wished you had just ignored the BMW and carried on your merry way to the tip, then you or anyone else would not have been injured or killed. If only …………. it would be continually running through your head, wish I had not been going on that pointless chase. Seriously how did you expect it to end? I hope you have learned something from this, about yourself and not to do it future.

And did you get to the tip?
