Hints/tips on installation of bar end shifter?

First time I've worked with these things and was wondering how far up the drop the outer cable needs to be wrapped and how best to secure the tape at the shifter end or any other words of wisdom.

I always start at the shifter, and then wrap the tape up to the first part of the curve, it works for me
