Hire or buy bikes in Carcassonne

Hi

I am travelling with my husband and Aunt and Uncle to Carcassonne in August. We plan to spend 3 days cycling then 7 days boating on the canal du midi and then another 2 days cycling. The plan is to have bikes for the time that we are on the boat as well. We are not cycling very far every day but will largely be following the canal the whole way. I have obtained some quotes from rental companies in the area but they are working out at around £150pp. Is it possible to buy a second hand bike (easily) in Carcassonne which we can then sell on at the end? We will need 4 bikes.

How are you getting there? Seems an ideal holiday for folders and they are easy to buy and re-sell via Ebay.

We are flying into Carcassonne with Ryanair. Cabin bags only. Would a folder be comfortable to cycle? I have heard that the paths along the canal can be quite rough!
