Well theres a first for everything, i leave my house about 4am each day to commute to work, i travel 4 miles along a dark back road, i love my bike and do have decent lights, most mornings i see and hear rabbits, they dont really bother me, but this morning travling at approx 20mph a badger ran in front of me, i hit it dead on, i went flying so did the bike, i landed on the road with the bike next to me i knew straight away there was damage to the bike as the lights had flew off somewere, the badger was fine as it ran past my head (luckly without attack). Feeling dizzy, i walked home in the dark, when i got home my helmet had a chunk missing my hi vis was torn,i had lots of cuts, the palms were completley ripped off my gloves, the bike had handlebar and saddle damage. The reson why i wrote this is becuase i feel very lucky that i was wearing a helmet, i have friends who dont wear them but will strongly influence them to wear them now, if i wasnt wearing it, it would have been a chunk out of my head. Thanks.

Glad you're ok, was the badger wearing a helmet as well then?

Hope the badger's OK.

I've heard that they can be vicious and hitting it could have made it very cross.

I'd practice badger defence skills if I were you. It just might ambush you to get its own back.

Oh no!! There are badgers where I live.. I know.. I have seen one.. well a dead one.. all fat with gas ready to explode it was.. *makes note to go get a helmet of some sort just in case I also run into a badger... dead or alive*.

That being said, it sounds like you could have come off worse. They're bigger, faster and more vicious than a lot of people think.

They are rather sett in their ways so it's likely that another encounter is likely.

You should recognise it if you see it again because it will have a stripe on it where your tyre went over it.
