Stopped in ASL at the bottom of Earlsfield Road waiting for the light. Heard a motorbike coming up behind, overtaking a v long queue of traffic. Just as he stopped behind me (and probably slightly to the right although I was at the extreme right of the box) the light changed so as I started off he roared past and missed my bars by under 2 inches. I've been clipped twice in similar circumstances so this really annoys me so I shouted at him. He slowed down after the junction and when I held by finger and thumb up as i rode past to show him how much he missed me by he hit me on the arm. I asked him what he was doing and he hit me on the back, I think trying to push me over.

I am sick of ASLs and bike lanes not being policed, and sick of dangerous riding by motorbikes and mopeds. He might have had a stressful journey and some near misses because of the tube strike but that's no excuse. Have his reg and will be reporting him.

Sorry to hear that caesar. I must admit the only problems I have on my commute re ASL's and lights are motorbikes who overtake too close. One small move to the left or right by me and I'm going to collide with one of them one day. You think being on two wheels they would understand, but they're just as moronic as car drivers sometimes. And it happens too often to be exceptional one offs.

He hit you, what a bastard, you should've either called the fuzz or thrown your bike at him.

Just report him, explain what you did, then say that he tried to knock you off by hittling you. All hard they are in their armoured leathers...not..

Unlucky.

I find the majority of motorcyclists are great in terms of their road postioning near me on my bike. I put it down to their understanding of what it's like to be on 2 wheels out there, having a not too dissimilar vulnerability to us cyclists from drivers of larger vehicles.

Thanks for comments. My two biggest bugbears are motorbikes and scooters swerving into bike lanes without looking left, and overtaking from ASLs when I am turning right. Both times I have been clipped were when advancing to turn right from an ASL at Bank, by mopeds that had got stuck to the right of the ASL behind a small island and who overtook me to go straight on.

Both problems are much more frequent when it's gridlocked, and tube strikes are the worst of all with lots of extra inexperienced mopedophiles, POBs, and peds crossing on red and between queuing traffic.

W*nker, makes me angry hearing stories like this, and seeing first hand them riding up bikelanes and pulling through the asl and over the white lines. or if the lights are just turning they race through and nearly clip you then

I'd second the comments that you ought to report it to the police.

But I'd add that most (if not all) motorcyclists I see give me plenty of room and are great. The only close overtakes I've had by motorised two-wheelers are scooter/moped things (usually with L plates on) - I'm assuming that they're new to two wheels and just don't appreciate (or think about) what they're doing.

Let us know what plod say and or do.

The biggest problem is you are talking about London traffic. I always find it so aggressive when driving or riding up there. No one wants to give an inch

Most of the time it's OK, I've been clipped twice in 6 years and I think both of those were during tube strikes. That's not to say that bike lanes and especially ASLs are not always full of bikes and mopeds though. The north end of Blackfriars Bridge northbound at the moment is a joke.
