What force did it take place in ? I would advise seeking advice from the local force...For example if you have a damage only road traffic collision in Thames valley police, you are under no obligation to inform police, nor is there any record made. In the Metropolitan Police however, you can fill out a "self reporting form" which is more of a backside covering exercise than anything else.. but the option is there.. Do note that the reporting form is no way an investigation into the matter. Unless you make a formal complaint that is...
As stated above she seems quite reasonable so you should be fine.

Please tell us how you come to that conclusion.

Apparent driving misdemeanor - as it reads buddy. What do you want me to share?

Both driver and cyclist committed offences: the driver should have checked their wing-mirror before turning, and the cyclist should not have been overtaking past a junction. I doubt the police would be interested in either given the happily minor outcome.

You said it appeared that there was no driving misdemeanour. I'd be fascinated to know how you can come to that conclusion when the driver pulled out into the OP without having checked their mirrors.

I'd be fascinated (not really, can't be arsed with pedantry) how you can come to a conclusion that there was a misdemeanour, given you are asking me?

Filtering on either side is legal. It's usually safer in the outside. Thing is, we do have evidence on here that when filtering on the outside, if a driver does suddenly turn right and knock the cyclist off, it was the drivers fault. The driver in this case was the police.

But so long as you are as careful as you can be, same with motorbikes, then you do need a good solicitor, I.e CTC or BC membership.

Filtering = overtaking

Highway Code rule 167
Advisory. Not law.

Don't bother reporting. The police may log an incident, but they will simply file it. They will not make any sort of investigation, and the incident report will simply be your version, verbatim, so evidentially worthless.

Police will only investigate injury collisions, and even if they do uncover evidence of careless driving, they are very unlikely to prosecute in the case of minor injuries.

It's advisory, but usually constitutes evidence of careless driving when a car does it.

But we're agreed the police aren't going to be interested.

You said you didn't think there had been a driving misdemeanour. Given the driver pulled into the cyclist having not checked their mirrors, I'm curious as to how you concluded that?

The things that swing it in these cases are how observant you are and how much time the driver gave. So if the driver just turns last second without a proper check of the mirrors or blind spot, then the fault must lay mostly on them. If they were indicating for some time, and you overtook them, then the fault lies mostly on you.

Add the word "apparent" which is what I said. That gives you everything needed in those 3 words.

If the damage is more extensive than it appears and the driver is thinking £20 will sort it but it actually turns out to be a lot more and the driver then decides to claim on insurance, then you need a reference number. If the collision was more serious and the OP actually got knocked off and was injured, you need a police reference. When I got knocked off recently in a very similar situation, I mentioned I had done a police report and things started moving along a lot quicker.

FILE A POLICE REPORT.
